Pregnancy Q & A

How can I have a healthy pregnancy and delivery?

Dr. Calinisan, Dr. Kim, and Dr. Safie are committed to helping you have a safe, easy, and uneventful pregnancy. Even before conception, you can meet with your Trinity Women’s OB/GYN specialist to talk about optimal nutrition, exercise, and supplements.

One essential step for a healthy pregnancy is taking a daily prenatal vitamin that contains at least 400 mcg of folic acid. Folic acid prevents the development of neural tube defects in your developing baby.

You should also see your Trinity OB/GYN specialist as soon as you know you’re pregnant. She’ll work with you to schedule follow-up appointments at every step of your pregnancy, so you can be sure both you and your baby are healthy.

What kinds of tests do I need when I’m pregnant?

When you’re pregnant or considering pregnancy, your Trinity team administers various tests to ensure you’re healthy. These tests help identify any issues that must be addressed to reduce your risk of complications. Some tests include those for:

  • Blood type
  • Anemia
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Diabetes
  • Genetic abnormalities, when appropriate

What kind of care does an OB/GYN provide during my pregnancy?

You have regular appointments with Dr. Calinisan, Dr. Kim, or Dr. Safie during each trimester. OB/GYN check-ups include ultrasound tests to check on your baby’s growth and development.

You also receive blood tests to ensure you’re not developing complications, such as preeclampsia or gestational diabetes. If you’re older or have a high-risk pregnancy, you may also wish to undergo amniocentesis, genetic tests, and other specialized tests.

How much weight should I gain when I’m pregnant?

If you’re of normal weight, the American College of Gynecology only recommends gaining 25 to 35 pounds during the entire course of your pregnancy. If you’re overweight, you should gain less.

Your Trinity team helps you make sound nutritious choices that support your health and that of your developing baby. Your OB/GYN or midwife also guides you toward the best exercises for each trimester and after delivery.

Can my OB/GYN deliver my baby?

You can choose to have your baby delivered by a Trinity OB/GYN doctor or midwife.  We service Loma Linda Medical Center, Murrieta and Rancho Springs hospital, Murrieta. Each team member at Trinity is dedicated to the safe and happy delivery of your little miracle.
